Grants

Grants are only available for the highly gifted? Wrong! In fact, there are many different scholarship providers who award their grants according to very different criteria. Social commitment, personal life situation or political commitment can play an important role. The best thing to do is to look around on the internet and find out which grant is the right one for you.

Our recommendations:

Studierendenwerk Loan

In case of financial difficulties, you may be granted an interest-free guaranteed loan!

Are you about to graduate and want to concentrate on your exams instead of a part-time job? Are you in the middle of your studies and have no income for a limited period of time, for example due to a job change?

If you are temporarily short of money, our loan may be your salvation. In such cases, Studierendenwerk Heidelberg can grant an interest-free guarantor loan so that you can continue your studies.

The prerequisite for this is that you can be expected to complete your studies properly. In concrete terms, this means that you must provide proof of your previous academic achievements. It is also important that you can present a current certificate of enrollment and that a person with a reasonably high income can vouch for you.

The loan usually amounts to a maximum of six times the monthly BAföG requirement rate. The money is paid out in one lump sum or in monthly installments, depending on your needs, and you must begin repayment no later than six months after the end of your studies.

Semester fee grant

For first-year students on social benefits

Prospective students from families who receive certain social benefits are often not in a position to pay the first semester fee due for enrolment. These social benefits are unemployment benefits, social assistance, basic assistance, child supplement according to § 6a BKGG or benefits according to the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act. Since 2017, Studierendenwerk Heidelberg has been providing affected prospective students with one-off scholarships in the amount of the respective semester fee. This is intended in particular to enable prospective students from parents who are far away from higher education or prospective students with a migration background to take up a course of study.

Applications must be received by the Studierendenwerk Heidelberg at least four weeks before enrolment at a university.
